Mental healthcare for staff
Modern society is highly stressful.Whether at work or home, we are exposed to various stresses daily.
A survey conducted by the Ministry of Health, Labour and Welfare in 2000 showed that the number of people working under stress had been increasing year by year. Considering the qualitative change in the way work is done, more and more people are likely to suffer from greater physical and mental pressure.
It is therefore important to think how we can maintain good health, both physically and mentally.
Moderate stress can be positively stimulating, but constant exposure to stress causes excessive pressure and eventually damages our mental wellbeing.
Poor mental health can affect a person physically, causing mental and physical symptoms, which can then develop into illness such as depression and psychosomatic disease.
As not all stressors are within our control, it is impossible to completely avoid stress.
But by learning to cope with stress, we can prevent it from culminating in disease.
Thus, it is important to be mindful of our physical and mental health and aware of our own stress level and mental and physical conditions.
In order to successfully deal with stress, it is necessary to notice stress at an early stage and to understand the state of our health, both mental and physical.
Typically, we are not aware of our own stress and fatigue, and so it may build up without realizing it.
The Health Consulting Section supports OMPU staff for mental and physical health management by evaluating their stress levels and mental and physical conditions using various checklists.
A professional counselor is also available, with whom you can discuss your concerns in a relaxed setting.
Information shared in counseling is kept strictly confidential, so please feel free to visit the Health Consulting Section.
