活動事例紹介

OKnK was established in 1982 by Dr. Kazutaka Konishi, a former Associate Professor of Pediatrics at our University and now a pediatrician at Abuyama Kodomo Clinic, in cooperation with several patients’ families. The group has organized lots of events such as annual summer camps, Christmas parties, and so on to encourage interactions among its members, many of whom live in the Hokusetsu area in the northern part of Osaka Prefecture.
The Department of Pediatrics of OMPU supports the group’s activities, mainly through assisting the Osaka Kurumi No Kai Pediatric Diabetes Summer Camp, which is held annually during the summer vacation. Specifically, members of the pediatricians working in our hospital join the summer camp to offer a diabetes education course to help camp participants acquire basic knowledge about the disease, deepen their understanding of type-1 diabetes, and learn the way to manage blood sugar. The pediatricians also provide hands-on, on-site guidance on blood sugar measurement, insulin injection, and dose adjustment to ensure camp participants gain practical knowledge, while offering advice and information on type-1 diabetes to address the questions and concerns of children with the disease and their families as appropriate. The 2023 summer camp was held from August 17 to 19 with 129 participants, including 30 pediatric patients and their family members, as well as doctors, nurses, and nutritionists. The participants enjoyed various activities during the three-day period, such as outdoor cooking, workshops, study sessions, family-doctor meetings, and a campfire.
The Department of Pediatrics of OMPU remains committed to promoting the health of children with type-1 diabetes and supporting them and their parents by participating in the summer camp and other activities.
